AMONG THE STARS at today’s RTÉ One programme launch was none other than Donal Skehan.
We decided to take the opportunity to pick at Donal’s culinary brain and ask him five of the most pressing food questions known to Irish people.
Beans on the plate or in a ramekin?
In the fry. Not in a ramekin. I’m not posh and sophisticated. Don’t be ridiculous.
Barry’s or Lyon’s?
I think Barry’s. We buy Barry’s.
Ketchup: do you keep it in the press or in the fridge?
Oh, that’s a controversial one. When I was growing up, I used to keep it in the press. Now I somehow put it in the fridge. I think I like it cold.
Is the blaa really just a soft floury bap?
I feel I would get crucified if I said it wasn’t its own thing. but it is a floury bap? Let’s not get too deep into it.
Down your pitchforks, Déise folk.
And, finally, what is the ultimate Irish delicacy?
Irish stew. You cannot beat a good Irish stew.
And where should one go to sample a good Irish stew?
My house.
See yiz in Donal’s.
